The McCracken County Fiscal Court, Paducah Board of Commissioners, and McCracken County Sports Tourism Commission are holding a meeting on Wednesday, September 7 at 3 p.m. at the Julian Carroll Convention Center to approve and sign the interlocal cooperation agreement for the outdoor sports complex.
To celebrate the significant milestone in the development of the outdoor sports complex, the McCracken County Fiscal Court, Paducah Board of Commissioners, and McCracken County Sports Tourism Commission are holding a meeting on Wednesday, September 7 at 3 p.m. at the Julian Carroll Convention Center. The community is invited to attend and celebrate the approval and signing of the interlocal cooperation agreement for this transformative project.
McCracken County Judge Executive Craig Clymer said, “This joinder of the County, City, and Sports Commission is a giant leap forward in a transformational achievement for our community and the entire region. We started with a desire to move our children from soccer fields situated on a reclaimed landfill. We boldly dreamed what is the biggest and best success that we can achieve? And this is it - joining together to create a multi-sport complex, not only for our residents’ use, but also to bring tens of millions of tourism dollars into our region. We are working together for success. The bell has rung, the gates are thrown open, and we are off and running."
“Since the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding approximately one year ago, we have been working toward this day,” said Paducah Mayor George Bray. “We are signing a complex document that has taken significant time as we want to ensure the long-term success of the new park. We are excited about working with the County Fiscal Court and the Sports Tourism Commission toward the same goal as we move to the next phase of the project. The development of this outdoor sports complex will serve as a driver for sports tourism, economic development, and community pride. We are all working together to ensure that it’s a resounding success for our residents and visitors.”
McCracken County Sports Tourism Commission Chairman Jim Dudley said, “The Sports Tourism Commission is excited to reach the final step in this process with the completion of the interlocal agreement. With the signing of this document, the Sports Tourism Commission, McCracken County Fiscal Court, and City of Paducah are finalizing the paperwork and will move into the next phase of schematic design. The future is bright in McCracken County!”
The outdoor sports complex, also called Greenway Sports, will be constructed off Park Avenue in Paducah at the former Bluegrass Downs horse track complex and Stuart Nelson Park. The project includes a revitalization of the former track grandstand, six full-size soccer fields, softball fields, six baseball diamonds, and many other amenities including the rehabilitation of Stuart Nelson Park Road. The project also will honor the legacy and achievements of Dr. William Stuart Nelson.
